NOPEC Locks in Lower Natural Gas Prices for Northeast Ohio
About NOPEC
NOPEC is a non-profit, pro-consumer lobbying force dedicated to bringing lower utility costs to families and businesses in northeast Ohio. NOPEC is the largest governmental aggregation in the nation. We are overseen by unpaid directors from each of the nine counties we serve in northeast Ohio.
Because we have no stockholders, our mission is simple and uncomplicated: We are here to bring the lowest cost energy we can to the residents and businesses of northeast Ohio.
While our chief focus is to provide the lowest possible rates to our customers, our work involves much more effort on behalf of northeast Ohio’s residents and businesses. In the volatile, deregulated energy marketplace, we recognize that just as important as low rates is long-term stability in prices the reassurance that your energy bill won’t suddenly skyrocket.
The rates we negotiate are under multi-year contracts, giving our customers the comfort of knowing they won’t get a shocking surprise when they open their electric or gas bill.
As a public entity, we are uniquely suited to advocate on behalf of our customers and indeed, all Ohio consumers for the legislative and regulatory changes needed to make this process fairer and more open for everyone.
Savings on electricity and natural gas is just a start. There’s no reason why the NOPEC concept combining the purchasing power of many individuals to bargain collectively for lower prices cannot be applied to many other goods and services. Bulk buying offers the potential to save money on everything from cable television to online internet service. NOPEC is committed to exploring all of these possibilities on behalf of every NOPEC customer.
NOPEC’s staff is small, efficient and knowledgeable. Leigh Herington, a former Ohio state senator who specialized in utility issues, serves as NOPEC’s executive director.
NOPEC, the largest public aggregator in the nation, is based in Solon, Ohio.
