To All NOPEC Gas Communities in Cuyahoga and Summit Counties
Direct Energy, the natural gas supplier for Summit County’s governmental gas aggregation, recently erred by mistakenly sending opt out mailings to about 17,000 customers who were in communities not served by the Summit County gas aggregation. The recipients of this mailing in your communities are ineligible to participate in the Summit County governmental aggregation program. We are waiting for additional information from Direct Energy on exactly which NOPEC communities were impacted by their mistake, but we know that at least the City of Brecksville and NOPEC’s gas communities in Summit County were affected. There may be other communities impacted as well.
NOPEC will be following up with Direct Energy to ensure that no customer in a NOPEC member gas community will be enrolled in the Summit County aggregation due to their mistake. A letter will be sent out by Direct Energy to the 17,000 customers who erroneously received the mailing to inform them of the error and confirm that they will not be switched.
If any of your residents and/or businesses have received this mailing, you should let them know this was an error on the part of Direct Energy. They are eligible to participate in the NOPEC governmental aggregation gas program served by Dominion Energy Solutions in your community, not in another governmental aggregation program.
If you have any questions about this issue, please contact me at NOPEC 440-248-1992, or the NOPEC gas call center 888-848-7914.
We will provide you additional information as it becomes available.
Thank you.

Bringing Lower Energy Costs
to Northeast Ohio
Formed in 2000, NOPEC represents multiple communities in northeast Ohio.
The concept is simple NOPEC negotiates to buy natural gas and electricity in bulk at a discount rate, which it passes along to northeast Ohio residents.
NOPEC has saved northeast Ohio residents and businesses $80 million in utility costs.
In addition to its constant efforts to negotiate lower utility costs and thereby serve as an economic development tool for northeast Ohio, NOPEC also serves as an energy watchdog, or consumer advocate, constantly reviewing trends and developments that affect the cost of natural gas and electricity in greater Cleveland.
NOPEC works for you.
